Before the age, history and value of a Victor product can be determined, the phonograph must be correctly identified. Fortunately for collectors, the process of identifying a Victor phonograph is not difficult. The Victor Talking Machine Company did an excellent job of providing model identification, along with a unique serial number for most models, which makes dating their phonographs a relatively easy task in most cases. Every Victor phonograph has a metal dataplate affixed either on or near the motorboard for machines with lids , on the side of the phonograph for most external horn and lidless models , or under the turntable for low-priced and some portable models of the 20’s. The turntable must be lifted straight up and off the motorboard to view some plates.

These are K-Ar data obtained on glauconite, a potassium-bearing clay mineral that forms in some marine sediment. Woodmorappe fails to mention, however, that these data were obtained as part of a controlled experiment to test, on samples of known age, the applicability of the K-Ar method to glauconite and to illite, another clay mineral. He also neglects to mention that most of the 89 K-Ar ages reported in their study agree very well with the expected ages.
Evernden and others 43 found that these clay minerals are extremely susceptible to argon loss when heated even slightly, such as occurs when sedimentary rocks are deeply buried. As a result, glauconite is used for dating only with extreme caution. The ages from the Coast Range batholith in Alaska Table 2 are referenced by Woodmorappe to a report by Lanphere and others Whereas Lanphere and his colleagues referred to these two K-Ar ages of and million years, the ages are actually from another report and were obtained from samples collected at two localities in Canada, not Alaska.
There is nothing wrong with these ages; they are consistent with the known geologic relations and represent the crystallization ages of the Canadian samples. The Liberian example Table 2 is from a report by Dalrymple and others

Cold high pressure is usually centered over Quebec or northern New England, providing a rich source of cold, dry air into the Mid Atlantic states. Heavy snowfall, sleet, and wind seriously hamper travel, and cause power outages. Forecasting these storms and what weather the region will receive can be difficult. The heaviest snow generally occurs in a band around 50 miles wide.
To the east of that heavy snow, it changes to a mixture of ice and then rain. To the west of the band, snowfall amounts are significantly less. That means that by just moving the center of the storm 50 miles to the east or west will completely change the type and severity of the weather received. Measurable snowfall at least 0. History of Records Timeline English physician and naturalist Thomas Young records the vibrations of a tuning fork on a rotating drum covered with wax. He is unfortunately unable to listen to what he’s recorded, because there is no way at this time to play back the recording. Frenchman Leon Scott de Martinville develops the phonoautograph, with which he is able to record sound.
The air pressure fluctuations caused by sound are translated into a wavy line on a soot-covered surface using a large horn, a diaphragm and a pig’s hair.

In , science firmly established that the earth was 3. Finally in , it was discovered that the earth is “really” 4. In these early studies the order of sedimentary rocks and structures were used to date geologic time periods and events in a relative way. At first, the use of “key” diagnostic fossils was used to compare different areas of the geologic column.
Although there were attempts to make relative age estimates, no direct dating method was available until the twentieth century. However, before this time some very popular indirect methods were available.

Sara McCorquodale suggests that women meeting strangers on dates meet initially in busy public places, share details of upcoming dates with friends or family so they know where they’ll be and who they’ll be with, avoid revealing one’s surname or address, and conducting searches on them on the Internet prior to the date.
